After a week-long trial in front of Judge Arcara of the Federal District Court for the Western District of New York, on October 9, 2015, a jury returned a defense verdict in favor of a local school district accused of age and gender discrimination. The Plaintiff was a tenured teacher in the school district, and had worked in the high school for more than 20 years. She resigned her position after a series of negative evaluations and her placement on a performance improvement plan. She claimed that the school administrators intentionally created a hostile work environment because of her age or gender and constructively discharged her. She claimed damages of lost wages and reduced pension benefits of more than $1,000,000. The school district asserted that she had lost her effectiveness in the classroom and took all actions for legitimate nondiscriminatory reasons. The jury agree, after a brief deliberation.
