Mr. Smith's practice is concentrated on civil litigation and school law. The litigation aspect of his practice primarily involves representing school districts and municipalities in state and federal court, with an emphasis on claims of employment discrimination, municipal liabiltiy, and civil rights. Mr. Smith also represents clients in proceedings before the State Division of Human Rights, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Commissioner of Education. Mr. Smith's school law practice includes providing general counsel to school districts on a variety of issues including, for example, the Freedom of Information Law, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the Open Meetings Law, policy guidance, and issues concerning residency and homelessness. In 2007, Mr. Smith earned his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School.
